Pastor Brian Smith grew up on a farm in South Carolina. After earning a BS in agriculture from Clemson University and a Master of Divinity in Christian Ministry from Southern Seminary, Brian answered God’s call to pastoral ministry in his 40s during a successful career as a horticultural consultant.

In 2012, Brian and his family moved to Elizabeth, Colorado, where he began as a staff pastor for a church between Elizabeth and Parker.

His philosophy of pastoral ministry is to shepherd and steward what God gives to the church - both people and resources.

His goal is to point people to Jesus for the answers they need - not give answers from his wisdom.

His teaching and preaching philosophy is the following:

“The biblical teacher’s role is not to take the Bible and bring it into the modern world, but to take the modern reader back to the biblical world and understand it as it was written by the author for the first readers in their historical context - then bring that understanding back to the modern world for how to live it in our modern world.”
Pastor Brian Smith

He defines his calling to the gospel ministry from 1 Timothy 4:13 … “Until I come, devote yourself to the public reading of Scripture, to preaching and to teaching.”

Castle Rock Baptist Church was blessed to have him accept the position of Senior Pastor in February of 2023.
